Cattle drive
When the days get shorter again and the sun colors the leaves, the alpine summer comes to an end. The cattle drives have a long tradition in the Zillertal and have become a real highlight of autumn in the Zillertal.

If the summer on the alpine pastures has been good and no accidents have occurred, the cows are festively decorated with flowers, ribbons, holy pictures, bells, and bell straps and are then driven down into the valley by the farmers and their helpers. The “Huamfohra,” as they are popularly known, are then welcomed back to their home villages with a colorful festival.

Not only our guests, but also many locals come to admire the magnificently decorated cows. An alpine summer like this always involves a lot of work and the occasional hardship.

It is all the more wonderful when, at the end, everyone can toast to a successful summer with a shot of schnapps at the Almabtriebsfest. Delicious treats such as Zillertal Krapfen and Melchermuas, as well as traditional music, also contribute to the good atmosphere. The Almabtriebsfest is definitely a spectacle that should not be missed.
